French botanicals giant Naturex said first half results had been dented by a difficult macroeconomic environment and exchange rates, despite restructuring and acquisition moves.

The Hawaiian based nutraceutical firm Cyanotech - which makes
natural products from microalgae - has announced a shaky start to
fiscal 2005, despite a recent return to profitability.
Sales at Wyeth consumer healthcare decreased 6 per cent in the 2002
fourth quarter and 3 per cent for the 2002 full year. Poor
performance of the cough and cold products was however partly
offset by sales of Centrum vitamins.
The manufacturer of functional food ingredients derived from rice
bran reported lower revenues and net income for the second quarter
compared with the same period last year, but said sales in domestic
markets have grown.
Lifeway Foods, the US functional foods maker, has announced a boost
in net income of 36 per cent for the first quarter ended 31 March
2002 to $447,558 or $.10 per share versus a net income of $328,713
or $.08 in 2001.
The largest US manufacturer of over-the-counter pharmaceutical and
nutritional products, Perrigo, has reported a 4 per cent increase
in net sales for the third quarter of 2002 to $198.5 million
(€221.2m).
